USA Pickleball Rules – 2026
Key 2026 Rule Changes & Updates
- Stricter Serving Rules: The term “clearly” is added to the three legal volley serve requirements—clearly upward motion, clearly below the waist, and clearly below the wrist—making ambiguous serves easier for refs to fault.
- Net Post Interaction: If a ball legally lands in the opponent’s court and then hits the net post, it is no longer a fault but a dead ball, resulting in a point for the hitter.
- Adaptive Standing Division: A formal, two-bounce rule is introduced for eligible players with significant mobility impairments.
- Spectator Interference: “Should not” is changed to “must not” regarding coaching or line-call assistance from spectators, with penalties possible.
- Double Hits: Legal if it is one continuous, single-direction motion.
- Second Ball Rule: A second ball falling out of a pocket during play is an immediate fault.
- Equipment: Stricter enforcement on paddle and clothing color to ensure ball visibility.
